How to Prepare for a Loan Signing Appointment

Loan signings can be overwhelming, especially if it's your first time dealing with mortgage or refinancing paperwork, but with a little preparation, the process can be smooth and stress-free. Here’s a quick overview of what to expect and how to get ready.

First, your notary signing agent will confirm the appointment time and location. Make sure you have all the documents ready—often provided by your lender or escrow officer—and don’t sign anything beforehand. You’ll need a valid government-issued photo ID to verify your identity.

During the appointment, the notary will walk you through each document, point out where to sign, and answer basic questions about the forms. While they can’t give legal advice, they’re there to guide you through the signing process professionally and efficiently.

The signing usually takes 30 to 60 minutes. After that, the notary ensures all signatures are complete and sends the documents back to the appropriate party.
